IndianOil wins the World Petroleum Congress Excellence Award 2008 for technical development
In a significant development that recognises the competence of Indian research in the global arena, IndianOil beat the likes of Chevron, USA, and Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia, to win the coveted World Petroleum Congress Excellence Award 2008 in the technical development category. IndianOil won the award for its path-breaking work in ‘Hydroprocessing Technology for green fuels: Basics to commercialisation through innovation’. The award was presented by Juan Carlos I of Spain to Mr. Sarthak Behuria, Chairman, IndianOil, during the ongoing World Petroleum Congress being held from June 29 to July 3, 2008.
The award recognises IndianOil's efforts towards improving the quality of life of communities through developing and supplying green fuels. Hydroprocessing technology is the technology of choice for secondary conversion. Due to its importance as a key technology for production of high quality and environment-friendly fuels and lubes, the hydro-processing or diesel hydro-treating technology is a closely guarded one the world over.
Select international technology licensors such as Chevron, UOP, IFP, etc. supply the hydroprocessing technology and enjoy a monopoly on this highly expensive and complex technology. Each of these technologies is based upon exclusive proprietary component developed by each licensor.
Development of this technology indigenously is the result of extensive and painstaking research by IndianOil's scientists and has given a major boost to India's Auto Fuel Policy.
The World Petroleum Congress is a triennial event organised not only to promote the progress of the global oil and gas industry but also to leave a positive affect on the local community of the host country and a long lasting legacy for its environment.
WPC Excellence Award has been instituted by the World Petroleum Council with an objective to distinguish companies, institutions or any public or private organisation engaged in the oil and gas industry for promoting or operating with high excellence standards in the categories of technological development and social responsibility.
Kudos to the brilliant team of IndianOil scientists and congratulations to all!
