Thursday, the 15th of October proved to be yet another glorious day for IndianOil. Mr. Sarthak Behuria, Chairman, was presented the ‘SCOPE Award for Excellence and Outstanding Contribution to Public Sector Management’ – Individual Category (2006-07) by the Honorable Prime Minister of India. Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh, Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, presided over the function. Other eminent guests present were Mr. Arun Yadav, Minister of State for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Mr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, Secretary Department of Public Enterprises and the top honchos of all PSEs.
The SCOPE Awards have been instituted by the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises, the apex body of public enterprises in India, to recognise the contribution of Public Enterprises and to encourage outstanding persons for their hard work and leadership qualities. Known to be a strong “people’s man” with a management style that is open, dynamic and transparent, Mr. Behuria was chosen for this award in recognition of his skills of excellence in the fields of management of strategic change, human resource management, corporate image building, contribution to public bodies, professional organisations and personal achievements.
Excerpts from the citation of the Award read “….With a keen sense of business acumen, Mr. Behuria is sensitive to the dynamic business environment and understands the importance of strengthening the hydrocarbon value chain. Thus, in addition to consolidation of the core areas of refining and marketing, diversification into marketing of natural gas and alternate fuels, downstream integration into petrochemicals and overseas business projects have taken as prime focus. Mr. Behuria’s immense pride in IndianOil’s intellectual capital has led to the active pursuit of EPCC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction & Commissioning) contracts, product up gradation and refinery turnaround jobs, petroleum pipeline commissioning and maintenance jobs in various overseas markets leading to increased presence in the global arena with operations in Sri Lanka, Mauritius, UAE, Libya, Iran, Oman and Nigeria, to name a few…..”
The citation also eulogised Mr. Behuria’s initiative of mergers of wholly owned subsidiary Indian Oil Blending Ltd. in 2006, IBP Company Ltd. in 2007 and BRPL in 2009 with the parent company that has helped IndianOil derive superior operational synergies and optimum utilisation of resources.
The awardees for the SCOPE Excellence awards were chosen by a jury headed by Justice P.N. Bhagwati and comprising Dr. Abid Hussain, Dr Arjun Sengupta, Mr. Hiten Bhaya, and Mr. Moosa Raza as members. The SCOPE award in the Individual Excellence category carries a gold plaque, citation and a cash amount of Rs. 1 lakh.
