India remains one of the world’s most compelling long-term growth markets. Sustained economic expansion, rising incomes, rapid industrialisation, infrastructure development, and increasing mobility continue to drive demand across the economy. Unlike many mature markets, where energy consumption has stabilised, India continues to generate new sources of energy demand, creating significant long-term opportunities across fuels, feedstocks, energy infrastructure, and related services.
The scale of this opportunity extends well beyond conventional measures of economic growth. Expanding transportation networks, manufacturing investments, urban development, aviation growth, logistics modernisation and increasing digitalisation are creating sustained demand across a broad spectrum of energy products. As India’s economy becomes larger and more diversified, its energy needs are evolving in both scale and complexity, creating opportunities across the full spectrum of established and emerging energy businesses.

India’s energy consumption is projected to rise materially through 2050, outpacing the global trajectory and increasing its share of world energy consumption.
India's energy opportunity is also distinguished by its breadth. Growth is expected across multiple energy streams, supported by evolving consumption patterns, policy priorities and technological advancement. Transportation fuels, petrochemicals, natural gas and electricity are expected to remain important components of the energy mix, while renewable energy, biofuels, hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuels, energy storage and other emerging solutions continue to gain scale. Rather than a transition from one energy source to another, the opportunity is increasingly characterised by the coexistence of multiple energy pathways serving different economic and customer requirements.
However, the global energy environment is becoming more dynamic. Geopolitical developments, changing trade flows, commodity price movements and evolving policy frameworks continue to influence energy markets across regions. Recent disruptions across major energy corridors have highlighted the importance of supply continuity, sourcing flexibility and infrastructure preparedness. For energy companies, the ability to maintain reliability while responding effectively to changing market conditions is becoming increasingly important.
India’s energy opportunity therefore extends beyond demand growth alone. Competition is increasingly shaped by participation across a wider range of fuels, products, services, and business models, alongside growing expectations for cost competitiveness, supply reliability and capital productivity. Scale remains important, but so does the ability to allocate capital efficiently, respond to changing market conditions, and convert investments into earnings.
POSITIONING INDIANOIL IN THIS LANDSCAPE
IndianOil’s portfolio today spans refining, petrochemicals, pipelines, gas, fuel marketing and emerging energy businesses, supported by one of the largest investment programmes in the Company’s history. Managing this portfolio requires simultaneous oversight of capital projects, operating assets, commercial activities and new business initiatives, each with distinct operating and financial requirements.
As investment intensity increases, performance depends not only on capital deployment but equally on project delivery, asset utilisation, cost management and commercial execution across business segments.
PROJECT SPRINT
Project SPRINT was launched in April 2025 as a three-year Company-wide programme aimed at improving profitability, productivity and capital efficiency through a common set of priorities, goals and accountability mechanisms.
The programme integrates 25 strategic goals across refining, marketing, pipelines and business development, while bringing together Human Resources, Finance, Information Systems and Research & Development under a common execution framework. Its objective is straightforward: improve coordination across functions and businesses while accelerating execution across the Company.
SPRINT is organised around six inter-connected priorities that collectively address the key drivers of long-term business performance.
Core
- Refining, pipelines,
petrochemicals, marketing
Cost
- Energy efficiency, process
optimisation, productivity

PROGRESS DURING 2025-26
Project SPRINT entered its first year of implementation with a focus on improving business performance through profitable growth, sharper execution and cost optimisation. The programme aligned 25 strategic goals across business verticals and enabling functions, creating a common agenda for execution across the Company.
The emphasis on planning, milestone tracking, performance reviews and accountability introduced greater discipline into how priorities are executed and monitored. This translated into improvements across commercial performance, operating efficiency, customer engagement, technology adoption, workforce capability and future growth initiatives.
Chairman outlining the vision for Project SPRINT
The successful implementation of SPRINT in its first year established a disciplined framework for translating strategic priorities into measurable business outcomes. Building on this strong foundation, the programme has now been expanded to encompass additional strategic priorities, including Exploration & Production, cost optimisation across logistics, refining, marketing, and pipeline operations, new business development, Research & Development, and other critical business functions.
As SPRINT continues to evolve, it will serve as a common execution framework for delivering IndianOil’s long-term strategic priorities across the enterprise. By aligning business objectives with clearly defined initiatives, measurable milestones, and robust accountability mechanisms, the programme will strengthen execution discipline, enhance operational performance, accelerate technology adoption, advance the energy transition, and create sustained value for all stakeholders.
