Natural Gas

IndianOil ventured into natural gas marketing business in 2004 and has established itself as the second largest player in imported natural gas business in India. The Corporation has been investing continuously into the Natural Gas value chain verticals viz. scaling up LNG sourcing, participation in LNG import terminals, developing cross country natural gas pipelines, laying CGD networks and supplying LNG through road tankers.

As co-promoter of PLL (Petronet LNG Ltd.), which has set up LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) import terminals at Dahej and Kochi, IndianOil has marketing rights for 30% of the long-term LNG procured by PLL at Dahej Terminal. IndianOil also takes pride in owning a 5 MMTPA terminal on the east coast of the country.

Sourcing

LPG refills at your doorstep IndianOil imports LNG through Long Term and Spot / Short Term contracts to meet its captive demand from Refineries and to market to diverse industrial customer base including Fertilizer plants, Power plants etc. First LNG cargo was imported by IndianOil on its own in June 2015.

Also, IndianOil paved its way to procure gas from other Indian Sellers either by Tendering route or by participating in Indian Gas Exchange (IGX), which is an Indian Gas Trading platform. IndianOil finalised its first procurement through IGX in September 2022. In addition to this, IndianOil also participates in Domestic Tenders issued by the Indian Gas Producers to sell the Gas from different Gas fields in India. IndianOil successfully made its first Domestic Gas Procurement in May 2021.

LNG Regasification Capacity

LPG refills at your doorstep IndianOil, through its Joint Venture Company, IndianOil LNG Pvt. Ltd., has developed a 5 MMTPA capacity LNG Terminal at Kamarajar Port, Ennore in Tamil Naidu. The Ennore Terminal is the first LNG terminal on the east coast in South India, located in Tamil Naidu, which is an untapped natural gas market. Further, IndianOil booked 3.75 MMTPA, 3 MMTPA, 1 MMTPA and 0.43 MMTPA of regasification capacity at the Dahej, Dhamra, Jafrabad and Kochi LNG Terminals, respectively, to achieve a total availability of 13.18 MMTPA in order to cater to the natural gas market in India.

Cross Country Pipelines

LPG refills at your doorstep IndianOil, in 2010, commissioned Dadri – Panipat pipeline and in March 2022 commissioned Dahej – Koyali dedicated pipeline to supply natural gas to Panipat Refinery and Gujarat Refinery, respectively.

Subsequent to PNGRB authorization of three cross country gas pipelines in July 2011, IOCL formed two JVCs namely GSPL India Transco Ltd. (GITL) for Mallavaram-Bhopal-Bhilwara-Vijaipur Pipeline (MBBVPL) and GSPL India Gasnet Ltd. (GIGL) for Mehsana-Bhatinda-Pipeline (MBPL) & Bhatinda-Jammu-Srinagar Pipeline (BJSPL) with GSPC, BPCL, and HPCL.

In order to evacuate natural gas from Ennore terminal, IndianOil submitted EoI and subsequently got authorization from PNGRB in 2013 for laying of Ennore-Thiruvallur-Bengaluru-Puducherry-Nagapattanam-Madurai-Tuticorin (ETBPNMTPL). As of Sep’22 Ennore-Manali (22 km), Ramanathapuram-Tuticorin (143.75 km) commissioned while, Ennore-IP01 (152.41 km) & Thiruvallur-Bangalore (272.97km) sections were dedicated to nation by Hon Prime Minister during May’22.

IndianOil in partnership with ONGC, GAIL, OIL and NRL incorporated Indradanush Gas Grid Limited in August’2018 towards implementing the Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 for North-East India released by Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas in 2016.

LNG at Doorstep

LPG refills at your doorstepThe "LNG at Doorstep" pioneering initiative involves making LNG available to the customers not connected by gas pipeline. LNG is transported through a cryogenic road tanker, stored in a cryogenic holding tank at the customer location and re-gassified on-site through ambient vaporizers for use as fuel. ‘LNG at Doorstep’ initiative Introduced in 2007, has been well proven in the industry and customers not connected by inter connected pipeline network is also getting the benefits of Natural Gas.

For Geographical Areas where IOCL is not the authorised CGD entity as per the PNGRB Act 2006, supply of LNG to customers having gas requirement up to 50000 SCMD is subject to the terms of the PNGRB CGD Authorization Regulation, 2008.

City Gas Distribution

Green Gas Limited:

LPG refills at your doorstep Pursuant to the directive of Honorable Supreme Court of India, IndianOil ventured into CGD through its JVC with GAIL in the year 2005 under the name of M/s Green Gas Ltd. (GGL) (www.gglonline.net) to market Natural Gas in the city of Lucknow & Agra among the automobile, industrial, commercial and domestic Consumers to accomplish improvement in its ambient air quality. GGL increased its GAs to 4 through active participation in subsequent bidding rounds.

IndianOil Adani Gas Private Limited:

LPG refills at your doorstep In the year 2013, IndianOil Joint Venture Company “IndianOil-Adani Gas Private Limited” (IOAGPL) (www.ioagpl.com) has been granted authorization for Chandigarh & Allahabad GAs (Geographical Areas). IOAGPL participated in subsequent bidding rounds to increase its portfolio to 19 GAs.

IndianOil Standalone:

From the year 2018, 9th round onwards, IndianOil on standalone basis, regularly participated in CGD bidding rounds to win authorizations for 26 GAs.
Till the completion of 11thA round, IndianOil has secured authorization for total of 49 GAs won on both standalone basis and through its JVCs for developing CGD network spread across in India detailed below:
