Guwahati   05-Aug-2011

Pradyut Bordoloi, Minister of Power, Industries and Commerce inaugurated the system of IndianOil (AOD) power supply to APDCL at Digboi on the afternoon of July 28 at a function organised jointly by the Oil Corporation division and APDCL authorities at the premises of the 33 KV sub-station of Balijan, Digboi.

The ceremony was attended by a huge gathering consisting of the high-level officers of both the organisations and leading members of the public.

As per the agreement, Assam Oil Division will supply 5 megawatt power to Digboi Sub-Division of APDCL.

The dignitaries on the dais were Pradyut Bordoloi, Rameswar Dhanowar, MLA of the Digboi constituency, Ambarish Panda, Executive Director of IndianOil (AOD), Champak Baruah, Chief General Manager of APDCL (UAD) and Sanjoy P Bordoloi, General Manager in charge of IndianOil (AOD). Sanjay P Bordoloi welcomed the gathering with an informative speech.

Champak Baruah thanked the Power Department, Government of Assam, and IndianOil (AOD) for this initiative. He said that the APDCL authorities spent Rs 2.5 crore to develop the infrastructural facilities for this power transfer. Ambarish Panda in his speech said that this power transfer was the first of its kind in India by any PSU.

Rameswar Dhanowar, local MLA, said that the agreement of the power sharing by IndianOil (AOD) with APDCL, Digboi was signed by the authorities of the two organisations at Dispur in the presence of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Power Minister Pradyut Bordoloi before the last Assembly elections. He also urged the authorities for upgrading the infrastructural strength of the Digboi sub-division of APDCL.

Pradyut Bordoloi, chief guest on the occasion, recalled that the network of power distribution built up in the Seventies had seen no improvement till 2005. Since 2005, the carrying capacity was built up to the tune of 1500 megawatt as against 550 megawatt in that year. Again, he said, 50 per cent of the power was wasted prior to 2005, leading to huge losses. But now the losses have been plugged and new set-ups for efficient intake and distribution were being built up. He appreciated Subroto Ghosh, the outgoing Executive Director of IndianOil (AOD), for agreeing to this power sharing. He requested the IndianOil management share the additional 5 megawatt of their excess power to APDCL to be received by the 33 KV line for distribution in the neighbourhood areas of Digboi.

Sabeena Choudhury, Deputy Manager of Corporate Communications of IndianOil (AOD) anchored the event.
