IEW Conferences
India Energy Week 2024 hosts two influential conferences. The Strategic
Conference, graced by global energy ministers, CEOs, policymakers, and
business leaders, will deliberate on trends shaping the future of energy. From
ministerial insights to leadership sessions, this forum promises vital discussions
on the challenges and opportunities defining the energy sector. Simultaneously,
the Technical Conference offers technical expertise for the engineers, project

Flashback - IndianOil at India Energy Week 2023
- In the backdrop of a new global construct, as the world looks at India to
take the environmental stewardship to steer the energy transition from
fossil fuels to renewal energy sources, Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi
inaugurated the first edition of India Energy Week (IEW) 2023 in
Bengaluru on February 06, 2023
- It was a proud moment for IndianOil as two of its indigenously developed
initiatives were launched by the Prime Minister during the opening
ceremony of IEW, i.e., the ‘Unbottled’ initiative and IndianOil’s double
burner solar cooktop. IndianOil’s sustainability initiative ‘Uncycled uniform’
received thumping acknowledgement from Prime Minister Mr Narendra
Modi when he wore the sky-blue ‘bandhgala’ jacket made from recycled
PET bottles today in Parliament.
- IndianOil’s stall at the IEW 2023 was set on the theme ‘Strengthening the
Green Resolve’. IndianOil presented its green endeavours at the stall to
ensure inclusive growth of the communities it operates in. Ensuring
customer delight, the unique QR code-based Track N Trace initiative for
LPG was also showcased to the visitors. The QR code will be attached to
the cylinders, which will help track them across the value chain of the
Indane Cylinder.
An Aviation industry pavilion was put up by IndianOil, highlighting all
aspects of the aviation sector and the development on Sustainable
Aviation Fuel (SAF) in India.
- Celebrity Chef Ranveer Brar conducted the inaugural public demonstration
of IndianOil’s Indoor Solar Cook Top by cooking delicious ‘Banyard
Khichadi’ and ‘Mushroom Stew’. The demonstration held at the IndianOil
stall was attended by Mr Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of Petroleum
& Natural Gas and Housing & Urban Affairs; Mr S M Vaidya, Chairman,
IndianOil; Functional Directors of IndianOil and senior management of
IndianOil.
- In pursuit of finding newer avenues in the field of the energy transition,
particularly in hydrogen, IndianOil inked an agreement with Italy’s Snam
SpA, one of the leading Natural Gas Transmission Network companies, on
February, 8, 2023. The agreement establishes a collaboration between
IndianOil and Snam for consultancy services regarding the conversion of
IndianOil’s existing natural gas pipelines for hydrogen transportation.
- IndianOil signed an MoU with USA-based LanzaJet, to explore
opportunities to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), including the
formation of a JV in India to produce the fuel using Lanzajet’s proprietary
Alcohol to Jet (ATJ- Ethanol to SAF) pathway during India Energy Week
2023. This collaboration positions India to become a major producer of
SAF in Asia and to meet the requirements of the Carbon Offsetting and
Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) mandate when it
takes effect in 2027.
- A bilateral meeting was held between IndianOil and Bhutan’s Minister of
Economic Affairs, H.E. Lyonpo Loknath Sharma, in the presence of Mr
Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and
Housing & Urban Affairs and other high-ranking officials from MoP&NG
and IndianOil. During the meeting, Mr S M Vaidya, Chairman, IndianOil
discussed the recent pricing issue regarding the products supplied to
Bhutan and proposed signing a G-2-G MoU between the Government of
India and the Royal Government of Bhutan, followed by a General Supply
Agreement for the supply of petroleum products to Bhutan, as is done with
Nepal. H.E. Mr Sharma expressed his pleasure in furthering the
engagement between India and Bhutan through the signing of the MoU
and GSA.
- Industrial discussions with the Ghanaian Ministerial delegation were also held. India expressed its interest in securing long-term crude oil contracts and exploring E&P and gas opportunities in Ghana. India also conveyed its interest in renewing the LPG agreement with Ghana. The Ghanaian delegation promised to consider all these points positively.
- The 9th Asian Ministerial Energy Roundtable, in association with
International Energy Forum, was hosted by Mr Hardeep Singh Puri. The
theme of the round table was mapping energy security and inclusive
energy transition. The discussions were led by Mr Hardeep Singh Puri and
HE Dr Sultan Al Jaber. Among the several Global energy CEOs, including
Mr S M Vaidya, Chairman, IndianOil, attended the event.
- IndianOil also discussed business opportunities with Indonesian
government representatives. The Indonesian delegation included Tutuka
Ariadji (Director General of Oil and Gas, Ministry of Energy and Mineral
Resources), Yohannes Martin D Hasugian (Coordinator for Oil and Gas
Investment Affairs) and Ir Kusnandar (Deputy Director of Directorate Oil
and Gas Engineering and Environment). Topics discussed included LNG
sourcing and refinery expansion, upgrading and new projects. IndianOil
offered technical support, consultancy and training services.
- Mr S M Vaidya led the IndianOil team during the discussions with Mr
Bryan Glover, President & Global CEO of Honeywell UOP, who is one of
the major licensors of IndianOil having 29 operating licensed units in
IndianOil Refineries and further seven units coming up under the various
projects. The discussions were mainly focused towards making IndianOil
future ready with emphasis on topics like Carbon Capture & Storage,
production of more olefins through low-cost revamps (aimed at increasing
the Petrochemical Intensity Index) and production of Biofuels, including
SAF.
- On the sidelines of the first edition of India Energy Week 2023, Mr S M
Vaidya, Chairman, IndianOil, interacted with Mr D T M Taufik, President &
Group CEO of the Malaysian fully integrated oil and gas company -
Petronas. Echoing the shared passion of both companies for creating
efficient, accessible and affordable energy solutions that benefit people,
our communities and the planet, Mr Vaidya shared IndianOil’s pioneering
efforts in embracing renewable and alternate energy sources and vision
for the energy transition.
- Interactions were also held with Dr Jennifer Holmgren, CEO of Lanzatech,
myriad topics, including the performance of the world's first 3G Ethanol
Plant at Panipat Refinery and avenues of having similar Plants in other
IndianOil refineries, were discussed. Both leaders agreed to develop
synergy to move forward towards de-carbonisation and strengthening
IndianOil's Green Resolve.
