Butyl Acrylate
IndianOil’s first-ever Butyl Acrylate Plant is scheduled for commissioning in July 2025 at the Gujarat Refinery Complex, located at Dumad (Vadodara). This marks a significant step towards forward integration in the chemical sector.
The Butyl Acrylate Plant will have an annual production capacity of 150 KTA and is based on proven technology from Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation. Butyl Acrylate is produced through the esterification of acrylic acid and n-butanol. Additionally, the process will yield 3 KTA of iso-butanol as a co-product.
The Butyl Acrylate produced at the Gujarat plant will be characterized by superior purity and consistent quality, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.
Butyl Acrylate (BA), with the chemical formula C₇H₁₂O₂, is a commonly used monomer in polymer synthesis. It is a flammable, colourless liquid with a fruity odour. BA is widely used in paints, coatings, adhesives, leather, and textile industries, as well as in the paper & pulp industry, sealants, and various other applications.
