Butadiene

IndianOil's Butadiene Plant was commissioned at the Panipat Naphtha Cracker Complex, Panipat, Haryana, in November 2013 as a strategic venture into the petrochemicals downstream segment. The major customer for Butadiene is Indian Synthetic Rubber Pvt. Ltd. (ISRPL), IOC JV.

The nameplate capacity of the Butadiene plant is 138 KTPA using Lummus Technology.

Applications

Butadiene is a key raw material used for producing Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR), Poly Butadiene Rubber (PBR) and Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). These materials find application in the tyre, automotive/transportation industry, appliances, and alloys.

An important customer of IndianOil is Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (ISRO), where Butadiene is used as a critical component of the solid fuel propellant used in PSLV launch vehicles, including the Chandrayaan-3 mission.
