IndianOil-DBT centre wins Young Technological Innovation Award

A team of research scientists from IndianOil-DBT Centre for Advanced Bioenergy Research bagged the BIRAC-SRISTI Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award 2015 In a glittering ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan recently.

Dr. R. A. Mashelkar, Chairperson, Research Advisory Committee, SRISTI and National Innovation Foundation, an autonomous body under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, former Director General CSIR  and  Dr. K. Vijay Raghavan, Secretary, Department of Biptechnology and Chairperson, BIRAC presented the award to the team.

The research team comprised Mr. Dilip Singh, Research Scholar; Dr. Preeti Mehta, Research Associate, Dr. Anshu S. Mathur, Research Manager, Mr. Ravi P. Gupta, Senior Research Manger and Dr. D. K. Tuli, Executive Director and Centre Coordinator. The team clinched the award in the Technological edge category recently for their work titled "a novel process to commoditise carbon dioxide gas into fuels and chemicals at commercially viable scale".

The team IndianOil-DBT was selected by the jury after rigorous multilayer screening of total 1700 applications of renowned international and Indian experts of the respective subject areas. Total 150 universities and institutes from 28 states and 6 UTs sent their entries across 50 technology domains. Out of 1700 applications, only 43 were selected for award in different categories.

Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI) has established three national awards for innovative projects in engineering, pharmacy, science and other applied technologies. Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), under the Ministry of Science and Technology, has been set with a mandate of strengthening and empowering the innovation research capacities and providing an enabling Biotech innovation ecosystem. The projects address an important social, environmental or technological problem faced by masses or micro and small enterprises, and have the potential to impact a pressing national need.

IndianOil-DBT Centre for Advanced Bio-Energy Research is equally funded by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, and Indian Oil Corporation Limited. The Centre is committed to advanced bio-energy research, addressing second and third generation bio-fuels. The major thrust of the centre is to develop and deploy viable second generation bio-fuel technologies by leveraging IndianOil’s strengths for commercialisation of advanced bio-fuel technologies.
