Business Group (explosives), IBPD organised the second conclave on Explosives at Kolkata recently. Eminent professionals and academicians from the mining industry addressed the conclave which was attended by delegates from the mining fraternity and other stakeholders.

The conclave was inaugurated by TK Lahiry, chairman and MD, BCCL, Dhanbad in the presence of Debasis Sen, director (planning and business development and in-charge IBP division) and senior officers like P Dey, R K Arora, Gautam Bose and Manish Sinha.

Sen, while delivering his keynote address spoke on the energy scenario in India and stated that coal was the mainstay of our energy basket in future. He touched upon the demand for explosives industry and delineated the importance of creating institutional capacities, enforcing of regulatory framework, absorption of clean technology to meet the challenges ahead. He also urged the industry to harness its core competencies in a manner that would transform it into a globally competitive manufacturing hub powered by innovation and international collaborations.

The conclave was addressed by Lahiry, RK Maindola, chief controller of explosives, Amalendu Sinha, director, central institute of mines and fuel research, PK Tiwari, director (technical) CCL, Sushil Bhandari, AK Ghosh and eminent personalities and business leaders in the mining industry.

During the conclave the safety manual was unveiled by Sen and a special issue of the Journal of Mines Metals and Fuels was released by Sinha.

The objective of this conclave was to share the experiences, deliberate and share learning’s among all stakeholders in the Mining Industry. The conclave was well received and it is expected that this event will strengthen and reinforce the customer relations base of Indian Oil Corporation.
