North Delhi Municipal Corporation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), on development of integrated waste-to-energy facility, on Tuesday.

The facility will help in disposing of 2,200 metric tonne waste collected from City Sadar Paharganj, Karol Bagh and Narela zones and presently being dumped at Bhalswa landfill site without processing. The garbage will be segregated as organic waste and refuse derived fuel to produce compressed biogas (CBG) and plastic or syngas.

"We signed the MoU over videoconference in the presence of Union minister of petroleum Dharmendra Pradhan and LG Anil Baijal. The officials have been told to to complete this plant in a year," mayor Jai Prakash said.

The role of IOC will be to facilitate identification of technology partner, selection and appointment of the concessionaire for setting up the plant through open, transparent and competitive bidding process and arrange for taking of products produced at the plant.
