Bongaigaon Refinery contributes to a Clean India

In what can be termed as playing its role in contributing to the national mission for a Clean India by ensuring separate toilet facilities for boys and girls in all government schools within the purview of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) within one year, IndianOil Bongaigaon Refinery (BGR) has been sincerely putting its efforts as a responsible corporate. Under Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan, it undertook the construction of total 201 toilets with an integrated running water system for both boys and girls in Bongaigaon and Chirang both identified as backward districts by National Institution for Transforming India Aayog .Under this, BGR has already completed the 1st phase of toilet construction of 104 nos consisting of 80 units for boys and 24 for girls in 88 government schools of these two districts much ahead of the scheduled date. Out of total 104 toilets, 59 toilets were constructed in Bongaigaon block of Bongaigaon district whereas, the rest 45 were constructed in Sidli block of Chirang district in the first phase.

In the second phase, Bongaigaon Refinery has taken up another 97 toilets construction of which is likely to be completed shortly. Under this, BGR will be completing the task of construction of total 72 Boys toilets and 25 Girls toilets in 73 government schools of both Chirang and Bongaigaon districts. Construction of 97 toilets is being carried out through School Management Committees (SMCs) and School Management and Development Committees (SMDCs) with technical support from SSA and RMSA as well as whole hearted co-operation and guidance from District Administrations of both Bongaigaon and Chirang districts.

Promoting sense of cleanliness and hygiene has always been one of the focus Corporate Social Responsibility activities of Bongaigaon Refinery. Since 2011-12, Bongaigaon Refinery has been underlining the need for providing sanitation facilities to the underprivileged section of society in vicinity under its CSR activities. Household sanitation facilities were provided to the underprivileged sections of nearby areas. BGR under its CSR initiatives constructed 728 units of household toilets in the phase manner during the period from 2011-12 to 2013-14. Besides household toilets, BGR also constructed community toilet blocks in the public places of Dhaligaon, Bortalowa, Sidli, Kajalgaon and Kashikotra for the benefit of market goers, traders etc.

In spite of all odds and heavy rain, inaccessibility due to remote location, team BGR is making all out effort to complete the construction within the deadline.
