IndianOil continues to serve customers amidst torrential rains !!
New Delhi   18-Nov-2015

With Northeast Monsoon active over Tamil Nadu and the well-marked low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal giving extremely heavy rain over Chennai, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore and neighbouring districts, the city has managed to cross its average monthly rainfall in November in a matter of just a few days.

Chennai has received 41 mm of rain in last 24 hours and with this the city has received a total of 1004 mm of rain in first 16 days of the month. The all-time record for the highest rainfall in November stands at 1088.4 mm in Chennai which happened in 1918, it is reported.

Come rain or shine, IndianOil works fine!!

Despite the continuous and heavy downpour, IndianOil's Chennai Area Office and Divisional Office have worked tirelessly, working hand in hand with our channel partners, motivating them and helping them to ensure that customer’s needs are taken care to the best possible extent. With Korukkupet and Tondiarpet terminals inundated, supply challenges have been galore. Mr. U. V. Mannur, ED (Tamil Nadu State Office), keeping a close watch on retail and LPG supplies, says “This is an unexpected extreme weather situation in Tamil Nadu; almost all markets are affected. Few of our outlets in interior Cuddalore, Kancheepuram and Pondicherry districts are flooded. In locations where the effect is manageable, we have motivated the team to go the extra mile to ensure that customers' vehicles are fuelled and LPG deliveries are made. The monsoon effect came upon us immediately after Diwali”.

IndianOil's Chennai Area Office has ensured LPG refills were made even during the rains. With 3 to 4ft water surrounding households, the LPG delivery vans were parked afar and the delivery boys loaded Indane cylinders onto their shoulders and waded knee deep water to deliver LPG refills.

Says Ms. Deepalakshmi, of Muthukumaran Indane Gas Agencies, “With Chembarambakkam lake overflowing, we had to take a long detour through Irungadukottai route to reach Kundrathur households. The van was parked away and I had to motivate delivery boys to reach cylinders to households. On 16th of November when the city faced heavy rainfall, we delivered 403 cylinders and on 17th we could reach refills to nearly 500 households. In many places we had to use cycles to reach cylinders”.

It would be interesting to note that many employees’ households were surrounded with water, with no means of getting out or getting in and in many areas water entered ground floor levels. Despite such hardships work continued in administrative offices and locations.
