Identification of a Pipeline

• The right-of-way is the land over and around the pipeline, typically 60 feet wide as demarcated by boundary pillars in which both Indian Oil Corporation Limited and the landowner have a legal interest.
• Pipelines are laid underground and once restoration is done no visible marks of pipeline route are available on the ground. However markers are installed at regular intervals for demarcating the RoW boundary and other details.
• Pipeline corridor is marked with pipeline markers like boundary pillars, Vent pipe at the crossings, Turning points, Kilometers markers etc. but the exact location has to be identified before any digging activity is commenced with the help of the pipeline owner.
• All the pipeline warning boards located along the IndianOil pipeline route have details of the pipeline owner (IOCL) with contact numbers, who may be contacted and informed about the activities.
