New Delhi   11-Jul-2007
Mathura and Panipat Refineries have been declared joint winners of Shri A.V. Ogale Running Shield for the year 2006–2007 for outstanding performance in the field of fire prevention and safety. Mr. J.P. Guharay, ED (Mathura Refinery), congratulated all IOCians at Mathura Refinery and said, ”It is a proud moment for us and this was possible only because of the sincere efforts of all IOCians who practiced safety measures without any mishap. He encouraged everyone to make similar efforts in future. “This Award is the recognition of our joint efforts for the cause of safety & fire prevention. Although the task of ‘fire prevention’ and ‘safety propagation’ has been assigned to Fire & Safety Department, yet it is everybody’s duty to shoulder this responsibility and make ‘safety’ a way of life”, he added. Instituted in the year 1981- 82 to promote fire prevention, the ShriA V Ogale shield is an internal award system of the Refineries Division in which, refineries are rated annually for safety performance based on data on fire incidents, accidents and losses due to these incidents. The running shield is awarded in remembrance of late Shri A.V. Ogale, Sr. Production Enginer (Haldia Refinery), who died bravely fighting an arduous fire incident at Haldia Refinery way back in July 10, 1980. This prestigious shield has returned after a gap of two years to Mathura Refinery, which won it earlier in the year 2004-2005 and also in 1997-1998. Mathura Refinery is entitled to retain the shield during the first half of the period i.e. from July 10, 2007 till January 09, 2008.
