Anand Kumar is new Director (Research & Development), IndianOil

Mr Anand Kumar has taken over as Director Research & Development) of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd today. Prior to his elevation to the Board, Mr Anand Kumar was Executive Director of IndianOil’s apex learning centre, the IndianOil Institute of Petroleum Management, (IiPM), Gurgaon. Mr Anand Kumar’s appointment at the helm of R&D is very critical and significant as the Corporation is poised to make major investments to explore new technologies such as gas-to-liquid and coal/residue/biomass gassification, petrochemicals. IndianOil’s R & D Centre is also the nodal agency within the hydrocarbon sector for ushering in Hydrogen energy into the country. A Chemical Engineer, Mr Anand Kumar has been with IndianOil for over three decades, acquiring rich experience spanning all aspects of the oil business from planning, process engineering, supply chain management, and human resources. Mr Anand Kumar has been credited with important upgradations in the corporation like setting up of the first hydrocracker fuel distillation furnace with over 92% efficiency and the first delayed coker furnace with online spalling facility, the first commercial trial of the bio-degradation process for disposal of oily sludge and the corporation’s largest RFCC. He was responsible for the first trial of catalyst additives for increasing yield of LPG, and reducing sulphur dioxide emission, besides introduction of digital control and advanced control systems in the refineries. He has also been closely involved in strategic planning of some of the Corporation’s mega projects, including India’s first hydrocracker facility at Gujarat Refinery and grassroots refinery at Panipat and expansion of Barauni Oil Refinery, making it the country’s highest distillate yielding refinery (86.5%). He has been instrumental in facilitating the turnaround of refineries and work culture. A founder-member of the Center For High Technology, he was also Advisor, Planning & Economics, to the Port Harcourt Refinery of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Nigeria. He is an active member of All India Management Association (AIMA), American Society for Training & Development (ASTD), and a sought-after speaker on change management, environment management, and work-life balance. As an ardent practitioner of Indian philosophy, Mr Kumar has initiated major efforts to propagate Indian wellness techniques of yoga and meditation for holistic development.
