During 2006, the global economy grew at a rapid pace of 5.5% as against an average annual rate of growth of 3.9% during the last five years (2001-2005). The growth was broad based across country groups, with China and India being the front-runners. US economy continues to be the engine of growth for the global economy, with more than one-fourth of the world output. A slow down in growth is expected in 2007 due to high oil prices and slowdown in housing demand in US. By 2030, China is expected to overtake USA to become the largest economy and along with India it is expected to account for more than 35% of world GDP.
