New Delhi   30-Jun-2008
<img src=/NewImages/Thumbnail/WPCAward.jpg align=left>In a significant development that recognises the competence of Indian research in the global arena, IndianOil today beat the likes of Chevron, USA, and Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia, to win the coveted WPC Excellence Award 2008 in the technical development category. IndianOil won the award for its path-breaking work in ‘Hydroprocessing Technology for green fuels: Basics to commercialisation through innovation’. The award was presented by Juan Carlos I of Spain to Mr. Sarthak Behuria during the ongoing World Petroleum Congress here today. This award recognises IndianOil’s efforts towards improving the quality of life of communities through developing and supplying green fuels. Hydroprocessing technology is the technology of choice for secondary conversion. Due to its importance as a key technology for production of high quality and environment-friendly fuels and lubes, the hydro-processing or diesel hydro-treating technology is a closely guarded one the world over. This award has been instituted by the World Petroleum Council and is given away in several categories such as technical development, social responsibility, etc. Select international technology licensors such as Chevron, UOP, IFP, etc. supply the hydroprocessing technology and enjoy a monopoly on this highly expensive and complex technology. Each of these technologies is based upon exclusive proprietary component developed by each licensor. Development of this technology indigenously is the result of extensive and painstaking research by IndianOil’s scientists and has given a major boost to India’s Auto Fuel Policy.
