‘Deeksha’ – a Capability Building Programme for Retail Sales was inaugurated recently by Mr. G. C. Daga, Director (Marketing), at IMCL – Mumbai. The six-day training was organized by the Training Department (Marketing HO) in collaboration with the Retail Sales Department. The dignitaries and participants were welcomed by Lt. Col. C. S. Shankar, Chief T&D Manager, Marketing HQs, who also administered the Customer Care pledge. The objective of the training was to refresh and enhance the knowledge of the participants of policies / products / pricing; provide fresh input on tactical tools for Retail Management and updates on Retail Transformation; update on engineering aspects related to Retail; familiarize the participants on strategic retail initiatives – XTRAPOWER, XTRAREWARDS, non-Fuel alliances; understand SAP for achieving business objectives; and refresh their knowledge on business etiquette and sharpen selling skills. Director (Marketing), in his inaugural address, outlined the achievements of the Corporation in the recent past and urged the participants to differentiate in terms of quality of service and relationships, and equip themselves with skills and upgrade their knowledge. He shared with them a host of information – that branded fuel sales are increasing, loyalty programmes are faring well, Kisan Seva Kendras have scripted a success story, etc. He also stated that there should be a proper system of MIS; restructuring of Sales Area so that Field Officers travel less; and Policies could be amended to meet the challenges in the market. Mr. A.M.K. Sinha, ED (RS), Marketing HQs, in his address said that the Field Force is the pivot in the market place. The Field Officers and the Dealers feel the biggest impact of any change in the market. Skills need to be sharpened to fight out in the market-place. The Field Officer is required to play the role of a ‘facilitator’ – a friend, philosopher and guide, and this programme would provide the required skill. Mr. K. R. Sureshkumar, GM (RS), Marketing HQs, gave a brief about the genesis of the programme and the design of the course.
