Unique ‘Mentoring’ initiative launched
New Delhi   17-Aug-2007
The 12th of July 2007 was a momentous occasion when a major HR initiative was launched by Mr. A. K. Rauniar, ED (HR), Marketing HQs, under the banner of ‘Diksha’ - an acronym for fruitful mentor-mentee association. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rauniar drew a parallel from our ancient past and said that the mentor-mentee relationship should be carried forward into the traditional concept of Guru Shishya Parampara. He felt it was imperative that the freshly inducted recruits are well-anchored in the organization so that “they forge strong, emotional bonds with the Organization”. He recalled the days when a freshly inducted officer was left to fend for himself / herself in the Organization. They discovered one’s mentor as they progressed in the Organization. Those who picked up the right cues were imbued with positive energies and went ahead in the Organization. “In work life situations, one comes across many experiences. How these experiences are transferred to our future leaders (mentees) is the key issue”, he said. The mentor-mentee relationship has something for both mentors and mentees. Diksha was started in the presence of young officers with a welcome address by Mr. N. S. Venkataraman, GM (RS), W. Region, Mumbai. Speaking on the occasion, he expressed pleasure at Western Region being chosen as the launching pad for such a bold initiative and assured the newcomers that they were in the right Company with the improvement in our Fortune Global 500 ranking from 153 to 135. The launch was graced by senior officials of Western Region and Maharashtra State Office. Mr. S. L. Verma, GM (HR), Marketing HQs, took active part in the proceedings. He conducted an exercise for Mentors where they themselves could assess their preparedness for Mentoring. Mr. Verma also presented a book “Managers as Mentors” by Chip R. Bell to Mentors and “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey to Mentees. The participants covered during the launch comprised 18 Mentors (senior officials) and 24 Mentees (Grade ‘A’ officers). Mr. S. Senthilkumar, Chief HRD Manager, S. Region and Mr. A. Bhat, Consultant provided faculty assistance for Mentees and Mentors respectively.
