Launch of Sahaj marks yet another milestone on the road to customer convenience, in line with Vision of Digital India envisaged by Hon'ble Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi. The PSU Oil Marketing Companies, viz. IndianOil, BPC and HPC launched Sahaj - the on line release of new LPG connections, through their portal mylpg.in to enable customers to register for new LPG connections online, as well as make on line payments for the same.

Launching the facility in New Delhi, Hon’ble Minister of State (I/c), Petroleum & Natural Gas, Mr. Pradhan congratulated the OMCs for implementing Sahaj initiative. He said, “The vision of Digital India is to transform the country into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy and ensure that government services are available to citizens electronically. He also complimented the PSU OMCs for aligning their business processes with the Digital India Vision.

Mr. Pradhan went on to say that the initiatives taken by Petroleum Ministry in the last seven months have enhanced coverage of LPG and extended better services to customers. The ever-growing expansion of PAHAL, a scheme aimed to improve the subsidy administration of LPG across the country, has ensured smooth transfer of subsidy on LPG cylinder directly to the customers’ bank accounts. He also thanked the over 2.5 million caring Indians for having given up their LPG subsidy to help BPL families enjoy freedom from smoke-filled kitchens, following the appeal from Hon’ble Prime Minister, Mr.. Narendra Modi. He also mentioned that over 2.2 million LPG connections have been released on subsidized rate to the BPL families.

The Sahaj facility will enable prospective LPG customers to post an online request for a new LPG connection by filling an online KYC form, uploading passport size photograph, bank a/c details or Aadhaar( for direct transfer of subsidy to his/her bank account) and acceptance of declaration along with upload of selected proof of identity and proof of address. After submission, the customer will get the registration number on his/her email id and subsequently he/she can check his/her connection status using the registration number and date of birth. ‘Giveitup’ option – to voluntarily give up the LPG subsidy element, is also built in the system. After a deduplication process( approx. 24 hrs) to check whether the customer already holds a connection anywhere in the country. The eligible customer, will get his/her wait-list number through email/web. This will help eliminate multiple connections holding to a large extent.

Thereafter, the customer will receive an advice ( sms/email) to proceed with payment for the new LPG connection. The customer will have an option to select mode of payment (On line / Off line), Equipment type (14.2/ 5kg), Connection Type – single or double cylinder( SBC/ DBC), Preferred time of delivery, requirement for Suraksha Hose (Y/N) & Hot plate (Y/N). The electronic subscription voucher (e-SV) will be mailed in the PDF form to the customer on its generation. Physical delivery of equipment selected by the customer will be made at his/her residence by the distributor and the cost of LPG will be payable at the time of delivery.

The payment transaction will be routed through a secure gateway into the distributor’s account. OMCs have tied up with reputed bank payment gateways to facilitate receipt of online payments.

The scheme, besides Delhi, is launched in 12 other cities simultaneously – i.e. Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna and Pune. It will be launched pan-India within the next few days.
