IndianOil’s 20 year consistent showing in Fortune’s Global 500

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, country’s largest fuel retailer, is the only Indian company to constantly and consistently feature in Fortune’s Global 500 ranking for the last 20 years. Among the Indian companies, it also has the distinction of having the highest ranking in this prestigious list.

Beginning in the year 1995, with sales of US $ 8235.7 million, IndianOil became the only Indian company to break through the bastions of the Fortune ‘Global 500’ listing. It was ranked at 481 by sales and 255 by profits. Among the petroleum companies, it was ranked at 30th place by sales and 19th by profits.

Over the last 20 years, IndianOil remained the only Indian company to feature in this list year-on-year and at the highest rank. Till date, no other Indian company has overtaken IndianOil in the Fortune Global rankings. For the year 2015, IndianOil is once again the highest-ranked Indian company in the list at 119, with revenue of $74 billion.

IndianOil, which can boast of one of the largest customer-interface world-over, had around 43000 customer touch points pan-India at the end of FY15, up more than 3 times since 1995, when it first featured in the Fortune Global Listing. From a refining capacity of 24.55 million tonnes per annum in 1995, today IndianOil refineries have achieved a crude oil throughput of 53.6 million tonnes. From the pipeline network of 3850 km in 1995, IndianOil as on date has built a network of 11,221 km of crude oil, product and gas pipeline.

Since its entry in the Fortune’s Global 500, IndianOil has diversified into petrochemicals, gas marketing and E&P. It is the second largest player in petrochemicals in India, with a full slate of products and the second largest non-APM gas seller in India with a market share of 30% in the R-LNG segment. Its upstream portfolio comprises participating interest in 10 domestic and seven overseas oil & gas blocks.
