IndianOil a strategic "supplier of choice" for Unilever
New Delhi   21-Sep-2007
September 2007 marks the completion of three successful years of commercial operation of Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) since the first tanker load of LAB was flagged off on September 02, 2004, from the Gujarat Refinery. Till date, the Gujarat Refinery has supplied close to 280 TMT of LAB to the market. Prior to August 2004, the domestic market of LAB was characterized by a surplus scenario with the manufacturers well entrenched in the sellers market. The entry of IndianOil in the domestic market resulted in a shake out and was welcomed by all. IndianOil LAB has been able to carve a distinct niche in the market with its USP of good quality delivered consistently in spite of stiff competition. The LAB plant in Gujarat Refinery, which boasts of one of the highest rates of operations in the world (~ 92%), reflects the huge demand for our product. The first supply of LAB from Gujarat Refinery was executed for Hindustan Unilever Limited (earlier known as Hindustan Lever Limited) – the largest consumer of LAB in the country. Our association with this conglomerate has been the hallmark of IndianOil’s successful foray into the petrochemical business. Speaking about the association with IndianOil, Mr. Umesh Shah, Vice President, Supply Chain Management, Asia, Unilever, says, “IndianOil was able to visualise growing demand for LAB well in advance. They set up a world class integrated manufacturing facility with environmental friendly technology. Though they were new to petrochemicals marketing, they were able to establish systems to manage a highly complicated supply chain from the start. Within a short time, they were able to meet the stringent quality standards of various operating companies of Unilever across the world, which have made IndianOil a ‘supplier of choice’ for Unilever. With very high focus on customer needs, superlative service and a flexible approach to solve issues, it is a delight to deal with the marketing team of petrochemicals."
