IOCian Rohit Sharma presented ‘Man of the Match’ award
New Delhi   21-Sep-2007
Indian Team cricketer & IndianOil’s tenure-based player Rohit Sharma made his first appearance at the crease yesterday (20th September 2007) in the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa, a memorable and joyous event. He lifted a six off the last ball to complete his well-deserved half-century in style in the match against South Africa. This 20-year old from Mumbai, who joined IndianOil in March 2006 as a tenure-based player, hit seven Fours and two Sixes in his 40-ball dare-devil effort of paddle-sweeps, hoicks and cutting over point and cover region. It was only due to the fighting fifth-wicket 85-runs stand between Rohit and Mahendra Singh Dhoni that salvaged the Indian team from defeat and led it to victory and a place in the Semi-Finals. It was no surprise then that Rohit was declared the ‘Man of the Match’. A middle-order batsman and utility off-spinner bowler, Rohit has represented various teams in international and national level cricket tournaments. At the international level, Rohit was selected to represent the Senior’s India team in the One day Series against England in England and against South Africa and Ireland in Ireland; was selected to represent India ‘A’ Team to Zimbabwe and Kenya; was in the list of 30 players for World Cup; represented India in Euro Asia Cup in Abu Dhabi and Junior World Cup in Sri Lanka, to name a few. At the National level, Rohit has represented the West Zone in the Deodhar Trophy / Duleep Trophy tourney. He has also represented the Mumbai Cricket Association in the Ranji Trophy tournament.
