Fire incident at Panipat Naphtha Cracker

A fire broke out inside the catalyst building (pumping area) of the Polyethylene Swing Unit of Panipat Naphtha Cracker complex at about 12:30 hrs. on Monday, 22nd January, 2018, which was quickly brought under control through the immediate coordinated efforts of fire & safety crew, CISF and emergency services personnel.

Five persons working in the nearby area came in contact with the fire. One of the contractor workers, Shri Mohan Lal (resident of village Baljattan) of M/s Prakash Construction, lost his life at the accident site. Three IndianOil employees who had suffered injuries were shifted to a hospital in Panipat and later admitted to Apollo hospital in Delhi, of whom Shri Bhhanojee Seepana succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, a committee of senior officials is investigating the cause of the fire. As a precautionary measure, the swing unit is temporarily under shutdown. All other units are under normal operations at Panipat Naphtha Cracker & Panipat Refinery to ensure uninterrupted supply of petroleum and petrochemical products.
