Victorious IndianOil Sportstars Felicitated

The IndianOil medal winners at the Gold Coast Common Wealth Games-2018 were given a rousing reception at IndianOil's Corporate Office in the august presence of Chairman, Mr. Sanjiv Singh, Director (P&BD) Mr. G.K. Satish; Director (R&D), Dr. SSV Ramakumar; Director (Refineries), Mr. B.V. Rama Gopal and Director (HR ) Mr. Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra.

In his address on the joyous occasion Chairman, Mr. Sanjiv Singh said the “IndianOil sportstars have brought laurels for the country and it is indeed befitting that they are being honoured in the auditorium of the Corporate Office which is a space that witnesses some of the most important interactions and decisions taken by IndianOil.” Complementing the medal winners on behalf of all IOCians he said that reaching the top is not easy and sustaining peak performance is even harder.

He added that sportspersons are great human beings with fine qualities and urged IOCians to imbibe the tenacity and winning attitude of their sports colleagues. Acknowledging the hard work that goes in making to the top he thanked the sportstars for bringing laurels for the country, making IOCians extra proud.

Mentioning IndianOil to be great employer he said that even beyond their sports career they can look forward to a very satisfying stint with IndianOil. He said that IndianOil with its wide reach across the country would like to do more for Sports and asked the sportstars for suggestions in this regard.

Mr. Sanjiv Singh, Chairman, IndianOil praising the efforts of IndianOil sportstars. Earlier, in his address Director (HR) Mr. Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra said that Gold Coast Commonwealth Games was really a great show by India and IndianOil Sportstars making us so proud.

He said that the Indian contingent of 221 included 11 IOCians (9 players and 2 coaches) and out of 66 medals that the country won, IOCians contributed with 11 medals, a rich haul of 4 Gold 4 Silver 3 Bronze.

He added that “it particularly heartening to note that out of 11 , six medals were won by women IOCians. This is more relevant as Gold Coast Commonwealth Games is the first major multi-sport event that celebrated Gender Equality with having equal number of events both for men & women. It is also noteworthy that our stars performed well both in individual events and team events.”

To encourage the medal winners they were honoured by Chairman and Directors of IndianOil.

Mehuli Ghosh, a class XII student and an IndianOil Sports Scholarship holder who won the Silver in the 10m women’s air rifle event was honoured by shawl, a plaque and a cash prize.
Ace TT player Olympian Sharath Kamal was presented a shawl, a plaque and a cash prize. Over and above this, he was given an out of turn promotion.

Manika Batra, the star of the Gold Coast Games was honoured by a shawl, a plaque and cash prize. She too earned a well deserved out of turn promotion.



Soumyadeep Roy the coach of the Indian women’s TT team was also honoured by being presented with a shawl & plaque.

At the function Mr. Sarath Kamal , Olympian & Arjuna Award Winner “Joining, IndianOil in 2003 was the best decision I took and ever since then IndianOil has been a lucky charm for my career. I am grateful for IndianOil’s comprehensive support that is enabling him being a Newage sportsman with special access to best coaches and therapists across the training spectrum.” He thanked IndianOil for a surprise “out of turn promotion” which would be a motivator.

I am very happy to have given my best performance at Gold Coast CWG 2018 and will try to keep winning.” “I am so thankful to IndianOil for everything. It gives me great pride to work for IndianOil and it is through the encouragement of my seniors and support of my colleagues that I am trying to do my best.”

“The Silver Medal at the ITTF Pro Tour Chile Open, Santiago in August 2011 was my first international win and now the performance at Gold Coast is my career best, which I shall cherish forever.” She too was happy for the surprise promotion that she was given.
