Prime Minister inaugurates/dedicates projects worth over Rs. 33,000 crores at Begusarai

Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi inaugurated and dedicated a bouquet of projects pertaining to development of Bihar at a public function at Ulao Airport, Begusarai in the presence of Governor of Bihar, Mr. Lalji Tandon. Addressing a gathering of over one lakh people on this historical occasion, the Prime Minister said that these projects will fuel the progress of the state of Bihar and eastern India. He shared that Bihar had the potential to play a pivotal role in driving the growth of the country. “The projects dedicated will transform the face of the region and Bihar by ushering economic prosperity, strengthening infrastructure, creating smart cites, environmental friendly ecosystems and better health facilities”, the Prime Minister added.

Mr. Modi laid the foundation stone of Barauni Refinery Expansion (from 6 to 9 MMTPA) project, ATF hydro-treating unit (INDjet), Augmentation of Paradip-Haldia-Durgapur LPG Pipeline and its extension up to Patna and Muzaffarpur and revival of Barauni Fertiliser plant. He stressed that setting up of the polypropylene unit will spur the era of petrochemicals industry in Bihar. He appreciated the progressive vision of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for coming up with these projects. Strengthening the Make in India initiative, the INDjet Unit will use indigenous technology developed by IndianOil and will cater to both civil and military aviation fuel requirements of Eastern India and Nepal. He said that the revived fertilizer ammonia urea unit will be gas based which shall provide impetus to farmers in the region.

He dedicated to the nation projects on Phase I of Jagdishpur-Haldia & Bokaro Dhamra Pipeline Project (JHBDPL) - Bihar Package and City Gas Distribution (CGD) in Patna as part of ‘Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga’ Yojana. He said that the 2655 Km JHBDPL pipeline covering Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal will be crucial in reviving fertilizers units in Barauni, Sindri and Gorakhpur and also supply natural gas for houses and vehicles in Patna, Varanasi, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Kolkata and other cities en route the pipeline. The availability of environment friendly, convenient and economical natural gas will also help in reducing pollution levels. The CGD will supply piped natural gas (PNG) to domestic customers and commercial establishments while compressed natural gas (CNG) will be supplied for the transport sector through CNG stations.

The Prime Minister also dedicated and inaugurated several other projects, under the Ministries of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation; Railways; Housing & Urban Affairs; Health &Family Welfare. These include creation of 30 MLD capacity and laying of network for sewerage projects across the state, the much awaited Patna Metro Rail Project, 22 AMRUT projects at various locations and establishment/upgradation of medical college at Chhapara, Bhagalpur and Gaya, Patna Riverfront Development – 1st Phase, Ranchi-Patna AC weekly express and electrification of Barauni-Katihar-Kumedpur, Muzaffarpur-Sugauli-Bettiah, Sugauli-Raxaul, Fatuha-Islampur and Biharsharif-Daniyawan sections.

On the occasion, Mr. Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar, Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister of Law & Justice and Electronics and Information Technology, Mr. Giriraj Singh, Minister of State (I/c) MSME, Mr. R K Singh, Minister of State (I/c) Power & New and Renewal Energy, Mr. Ram Kripal Yadav, Minister of State, Rural Development, Mr. Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State, Health & Family Welfare, Mr. Sushil Kumar Modi, Dy. Chief Minister of Bihar, other state ministers, MLAs, MPs, senior executives from the Ministries, Govt. departments and PSUs were present. Mr. Sanjiv Singh, Chairman, IndianOil and HURL and Mr. B V Rama Gopal, Director (Refineries) also graced the occasion.
