IndianOil Commissions Jharkhand’s first CNG Station under CGD Project at Bokaro

India’s leading national oil & gas company, Indian Oil Corporation (IndianOil), commissioned its first Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station under the City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in Jharkhand State at its fuel station, M/s. KL Bhasin & Co., Naya More, in Bokaro today.
The CNG station, formally inaugurated by Shri Pashupati Nath Singh, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Dhanbad, in the august presence of Shri Biranchi Narayan, Hon’ble MLA, Bokaro, marks the launch of a new eco-friendly and safe fuel in the form of natural gas for the benefit of motorists in the Steel City. This will not only be the first CNG station of Jharkhand but also the first among all the Geographical Areas (GAs) coming under the 9th CGD bidding round of Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).
IndianOil has been granted authorisation by PNGRB for supplying natural gas in the form of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to domestic, commercial and industrial sectors and in the form of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to the transport sector in Bokaro-Hazaribagh-Ramgarh Geographical Area.
IndianOil will be investing about Rs. 613 crore in this CGD project over the next 8 years so that the residents and other potential users in the three districts fully avail of the many benefits of PNG and CNG, like those in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and other cities. Sufficient number of CNG stations will be set up to meet the transport sector demand while simultaneously catering to the commercial and industrial sectors.
With the commissioning of the 2,540-km Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga gas pipeline project by Dec. 2020, natural gas for the Geographical Area will be directly sourced from the Dhobi-Haldia/Bokaro-Dhamra pipeline sections. With this, Bokaro-Hazaribagh-Ramgarh will have direct pipeline connectivity from the gas source, which is essential for large-scale expansion of the CGD network in the three districts.
Natural gas is not only a clean and environment-friendly fuel but safe and convenient to use because of its high auto-ignition temperature, low flammability range and being lighter than air. Besides being a cheaper fuel, CNG offers better mileage for vehicles than petrol and reduces maintenance cost.
IndianOil, through its joint venture companies, has been implementing/operating CGD projects since 2006 and is supplying CNG and PNG in many authorised locations in the country.
