IndianOil-Odisha’s unflinching commitment to combat Fani reflected through actions and results

On 30th April 2019, IndianOil got the final clue of Cyclone “Fani” changing its track and with re-curve reaching Odisha coast between Gopalpur and Chanbali on 3rd of May’19 at 5.30 PM. The predicted wind speed range of 180 KMPH to 200 KMPH implied an imminent catastrophe and Team IndianOil at Odisha swiftly move into action to ensure maintenance of uninterrupted fuel supply and for effective contribution in rescue operations.

Preemptive actions under taken by IOCL that resulted in successful combating of Cyclone Fani in Odisha
IndianOil’s Odisha State Head and State Level Coordinator for the oil industry Sri Subhajit Ghosh convened an Industry meeting on 30th April, afternoon with IOCL and other Oil Majors such as BPCL, HPCL and GAIL to ensure effective mitigation plans starting 30th Apr till Cyclone starts affecting supplies. A Control cell was formed, which started operating from IOCL office from 0600 Hrs on 2nd Apr’19 and worked round the clock.

Immediately action was taken to lower down High Mast towers in Company Owned Company Operated Retail Outlets and Oil Installations locations alongside removal of Canopy Cover at Retail Outlets in the coastal belt starting from Puri. The swiftness of the action that was undertaken on war footing basis was appreciated by District Authorities. Supplies of Petrol and Diesel at all Retail Outlets in affected Districts of Ganjam, Khurda, Puri Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkenal and Gajpati were topped up on 30th of April for both Petrol, Diesel and LPG supplies.

Despite the Labour Day Holiday, on 1st of May’19 IndianOil operated its Bottling Plant at Jharsuguda and Oil Installations at Jatni & Jharsuguda in full swing and further topped up the stock. As storm and rains were predicted to start from the evening of 2nd May, IndianOil-Odisha had ensured all locations worked till late hours to further ensure enough products in Oil and LPG in all Retail Outlets and LPG Distributors covering the affected Districts.

Action was taken to also top up all major Customers, especially those directly related to public services like Railway Consumer Depots. Requirement of IT sectors, Airport Authority of India, Bharti AirTel, Mahanadi Coal Fields / NTPC / IFFCO /PPL /all Mining sector Customers / Coast Guard starting from 30th Apr till 2nd May’19.

Team IndianOil at IOCL Odisha State Office worked day and night and ensured supplies are released from all locations before Cyclone struck the coast of Odisha. The IndianOil locations across the state worked with extended hours at Jatni and also at Paradip, Jharsuguda and Balasore.
