IndianOil Chairman Sarthak Behuria bags SCOPE Award for Excellence

Mr. Sarthak Behuria, Chairman of IndianOil Corporation Ltd. (IndianOil), has been chosen to receive the prestigious "SCOPE Award for Excellence and Outstanding Contribution to Public Sector Management – Individual Category" for the year 2006-07. The SCOPE Awards have been instituted by the (Standing Conference of Public Enterprises), the apex body of public enterprises in India, to recognise the contribution of Public Enterprises and to encourage outstanding persons for their hard work and leadership qualities. The criteria for evaluation of individual nominations were based on management of strategic change, human resource management, corporate image building, leadership policy, customer satisfaction management, etc. The awardees for the SCOPE Excellence awards were chosen by a jury headed by Justice P.N. Bhagwati and comprising Dr. Abid Hussain, Dr Arjun Sengupta, Mr Hiten Bhaya, and Mr Moosa Raza as members. The SCOPE award in the Individual Excellence category carries a gold plaque and a cash amount of Rs. 1 lakh. Mr. Sarthak Behuria heads India's largest corporate, IndianOil, besides leading several reputed industry organisations, such as Petroleum Federation of India (PetroFed), SCOPE, and the Council of Indian Employers. As Vice-President, he also represents Asia on the board of World LPGas Association. Under Mr. Behuria's stewardship, IndianOil is transforming into a major, diversified, transnational integrated energy company. Besides consolidation in the core areas of refining and marketing, Mr. Behuria is pursuing a string of strategic initiatives across the hydrocarbon value chain for forward integration into petrochemicals and backwards into exploration & production of oil, and diversification into natural gas business, besides globalisation of marketing operations. In the enterprise category, the Gold Trophy has been won by Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). The silver trophies have been won by Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) in turnaround category; National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd (NBCC) and Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) in medium PSE category; and, Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments Limited (REIL) in smaller PSE category.
