Catalysing the sporting aspiration of the nation, over the past three decades, IndianOil has been igniting the flame of athletic excellence.

Way back in 1966, the legendary badminton player Dinesh Khanna joined IndianOil and became a national champion thereafter. Not only this, he won Bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games of 1966 and in the Asian Games of 1974. Later, in 1986, the Corporation embarked on the mission by inducting the first batch of sportspersons in the game of cricket and later enhanced the pool by including Badminton, Cricket, Table Tennis and Tennis. The subsequent years witnessed raising talent of carrom players in 1995, chess maestros in 1996 and the formidable hockey brigade in the year 2001.

With the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive sports policy in 2003, encompassing recruitment, performance evaluation, promotion, facilities, and code of conduct, IndianOil is proudly nurturing over 150 IOCian sportspersons on its roll. The Company’s rich legacy of sports stars boasts of over 20 Olympians with prominent names like A Sharath Kamal, Rohan Bopanna, Manika Batra, V R Raghunath, Dipankar Bhattacharjee, Deepak Thakur and Devesh Chauhan amongst others.

IndianOil’s flagship sports scholarship programme, IndianOil ‘Acers’, is raising over 200 budding grassroot talent in the country into future champions. These extraordinary champions have clinched innumerable accolades on national and global platforms. For fuelling the wings of empowerment, “IndianOil Shakti”, is another flagship programme aimed at fostering young girls into national athletes. The Corporation is steering India’s Para Sports by raising nascent para-athletes of the nation towards dignified living and self-reliance.

Moving beyond the conventional realm, IndianOil has launched impactful initiatives of social transformation like “Parivartan – Prison to Pride” and “Nai Disha – Smile for Juvenile”. By leveraging the power of sports, these programmes are designed to uplift the lives of prison inmates and juveniles, reflecting Company’s core values of Nation-First and Care.

These sporting initiatives have been widely applauded and have conferred on the Corporation various national and international accolades like the ‘The Friend of FIDE’.

The IndianOil Sports Scholarship scheme, IndianOil ‘Acers’ is a flagship program for propagating sports talent of the nation with the provision of 50% scholar seats for female sportspersons. Since inception, the IndianOil Sports Scholarship Scheme has nurtured and impacted lives of more than 1000 budding sportspersons.

Scholar turned IOCian: Table Tennis sensation - Manika Batra, Carrom Queen - Kajal Kumari, Hockey King - Kothajit Singh and Cricketer - Prithvi Shaw are only few of the many whose aspirations are fuelled by IndianOil.

  • IndianOil raised its first Corporate Women’s Hockey Team in March 2022 on the momentous occasion of International Women’s Day in an endeavour to empower women in sports.
  • IndianOil Women's Hockey Team emerged as Champions in the 3rd Hockey India Senior Women Inter-Department National Championship 2023.
  • Udita, IndianOil team’s captain, was named the ‘Best Midfielder’ of the tournament, and Baljeet Kaur was conferred with the ‘Player of the Championship’ award.

Parivartan and Nai Disha – Transforming Lives

IndianOil has expanded its vision from nurturing indigenous sportspersons to being the largest promoter of Sports in the nation with Scholarships, Sponsorships, Coaching, ParaSports and creating perpetual social impact through distinct programs like “Parivartan - Prison to Pride” and “Nai Disha - Smile for Juvenile”. These one of its kind heart-warming sports initiatives are aimed at building confidence, rehabilitating lives of prison inmates & juveniles and bringing about a positive transformation in their approach towards life. These unique sports initiatives have reached over 7300 inmates at 150 prisons and juveniles centres across the country creating an indelible mark in their lives.
